# Mentions & Backlinks

Mentions & Backlinks generates off-site target lists—spanning review platforms, directories, trade publications, communities, social channels, and industry databases—where brand presence directly influences AI search recommendations.

## What Mentions & Backlinks Does

AI search engines draw heavily from third-party sources when constructing brand recommendations. If your brand is absent from the review hubs, forums, and trade journals referenced by LLMs, you will remain excluded from AI search answers.

Mentions & Backlinks bridges this gap by identifying off-site surfaces cited across your category and ordering them by LLM citation frequency to streamline outreach and listing management.

## Data Sources & Selection Logic

* **Context-Driven Filtering:** Curates candidate platforms based on your industry, target audience, geography, and tracked competitors.
* **Observed Citation Analysis:** Editorial publication lists are derived from domains actively cited in your project's captured AI responses before expanding to vertical titles.
* **Citation Count Metrics:** Enriches every target row with real citation data from your tracked prompt set.
* **Relevance Guardrails:** Excludes irrelevant platforms to prevent artificial list padding and clearly notes when no public submission route exists.

## Target Categories Overview

Each category exports as an independent CSV file complete with direct submission links and recommended actions:

## Understanding Citation Count (Amadora)

`Citation Count (Amadora)` tracks how often a specific domain appears in AI search answers captured for your project's tracked prompts.

* **High Citation Count:** Indicates that AI models frequently cite this surface when answering questions in your vertical. Priority outreach should focus on high-count domains.
* **Zero Citation Count:** Does not mean the domain should be skipped. High-fit buyer review platforms remain valuable, but cited domains represent faster visibility opportunities.

## Recommended Execution Workflow

1. **Work Top-Down:** Maintain the priority sorting provided in the exported CSV files rather than re-sorting by general audience size or follower counts.
2. **Delegate Self-Serve Listings:** Hand Review Platforms, Directories, and Databases directly to team members or VAs to complete submissions using the provided `Submission URL` links.
3. **Assign Strategic Outreach:** Pass Editorial Publications and Communities to PR managers to draft custom pitches aligned with `Recommended Post Types`.
4. **Prioritize Database Audits:** Start with database entries where `Our Listing Status` shows unlisted profiles or where `Profile Completeness %` is below 100%.

## FAQs

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Are backlink placements guaranteed?">
    No. Mentions & Backlinks provides prioritized target lists and submission paths. Directories and databases are self-submitted, while editorial features require standard outreach pitching.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why is a major general directory missing from my list?">
    Lists are filtered strictly by relevance to your industry, geography, and target persona. General directories lacking category relevance are intentionally omitted.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I run Mentions & Backlinks without tracked prompts?">
    Yes. The lists will still generate based on industry context, but `Citation Count (Amadora)` will return zero across all rows, and Editorial lists will fall back to standard curated titles rather than observed citations.
